Horse expert Duan Jingzhu makes a living by stealing horses. In order to offer his beloved woman, Sanniang, a better life, he manages to get his hands on the Jade Lion, a precious steed kept in the Zeng family. During the theft, he meets Shi Qian, a spy from Liangshan, from whom he learns that the Zeng family is colluding with a Jurchen prince to overthrow the Song Dynasty. Duan decides that he should do something for his country.
